From June 30, 1942 . This manual is 5 1/2" by 8 1/2", 64 pages long, softbound, and is loaded with lots of diagrams, charts and graphs covering the use of the WW2 German Field Kitchen in Warm Countries. All of the recipes could apply to a field kitchen in any climate and anywhere in the world. This manual is a little bit of a less military manual than a cookbook with many pages of specific cooking directions and portions. Besides advice and recipes for warm weather cooking it even has a page of German/Italian words for the cook so the Italian and German cooks could get along in the kitchen. Early in the manual their are warnings about sanitation, bad water, flies and sandstorms. Their are pages of tips to make the cooks life a bit easier such a making an oven or big pot from a gasoline drum. Instide you will find about 30 pages of detailed recipes , incliding many recipes specifically for cooking in the mess tin and lid. In the back their is 10 pages of black and white pictures of plants and descriptions of the local North African plants and preparation tips with the plant names in German, Italian, Arabic and Egyption..
