Stunning large pitcher, hand decorated in sgraffito design with a deer, details and foliage in cobalt blue, brown, beige glaze. Rare mid-century studio pottery piece to add to your pottery collection and to home decor! This beautiful pitcher looks, like has not been used, rather it was displayed. Signed on the bottom with R. Merkelbach Handgeritzt, Item #2. This piece is in excellent condition, no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs. Merkelbach Manufaktur was established in 1843. The founder was Wilhelm Merkelbach whose family pottery traditions had dated back to 17th century. The pottery was developed by his son Reinhold Merkelbach. Backstamp: R.
