Description: Victorian Multi-Stick Pin Brooch Lapel Sterling 925 9- 12k Gold Enamel MOP 1887 We offer for this lovely antique Victorian handmade multi-stick pin brooch features: beautiful enamel work, detailed engravings, Turquoise, Coral, Mother of Pearl, Multicolored Art Glass and gold gilded pin heads. Stick pins heads and brooch center are made of mixed metals and materials: sterling silver, 800 Silver; 9k - 12k gold, metal content varies by pin and pin head. Pins (not heads are gold filled or silver depending on pin. The center pin is dated '87 for 1887. It measures approx. 2 1/4" in diameter. All stones are intact and in good vintage condition. Two pins have detailed engraving. One of a bird in flight, another a dangling love token with a detailed engraved daisy. It was handmade from multiple stick pins. It unmarked and unsigned. In Victorian times, and around the turn of the century (1900), it was the custom for gentlemen callers to give ladies caveat / stick pins as tokens of their affection and to let other potential suitors know of their affection / intent to court a lady. Suiters used it to stake their claim to courting a woman. It is an estate piece from the UK. Brooch has been gently cleaned and hand polished. Buyer may or may not wish to do additional polishing. Mother of Pearl Stick Pin had cabochons of turquoise and coral. Many popular ladies, and later stick pin collectors, made brooches from the stick pins. As was common during the time, some stick pin heads are made of higher quality materials, gem stones and metal than the stick pin portions of the pin; (ie some may have a gold heads and gold filled pin).
