Description: This item is an antique vintage right-handed 35 1/2" wood shaft wedge from the early 1930's. It is a smooth face, large headed, super wide sole, concave face niblick. Similar to the Walter Hagen concave sand wedge that Bobby Jones used. Made by J M Clark, Inc Newark, NJ. The called it their Skoopum. This one is made of stainless steel. I have seen several of these but not many. They were made in both stainless steel and chromed carbon steel. Concave wedges were banned by the USGA in 1931 and I suspect Clark was about to bring it to market to compete with the Walter Hagen concave sand wedge, but the USGA banned the concave faces and very few of these were ever sold. I purchased this as a head only, never shafted. Around 50* loft and a very heavy E 8 swingweight. The head is clean and not all rusted. I do not believe it was ever shafted or used before I purchased it. Please look at the many zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shaft is a brand-new hickory I had installed by Louisville Golf. The shaft is straight, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. The grip is a newer rough side out long leather wrap. Nice looking and very playable or displayable collectible wedge. Jeff Ellis has sold several of these in his auctions and I believe one sold for almost $800. Shipping in the US is calculated and based on a 3-pound box. This item shipped UPS Ground. For those of you that never ship but only receive items, the further you are from me in NC the more shipping will be. That is the way the carriers charge. On top of that, eBay and takes almost 15% of what I receive for shipping (out of $10 I receive $8.50) and I would like to break even. eBay collects sales tax for many states.
