These all open pretty hard.This rare wood comes from the aromatic Thuya tree, a type of juniper root wood, found primarily in the coastal town of Essaouira. Its unique blend of burled grain is exclusive to Morocco. Color tends to darken with age to a medium to dark reddish brown. Burl blocks can vary in frequency and size of knot clusters, but grain is more or less swirled/irregular, with a medium to fine texture and good natural luster. Thuya has a very distinct, cedar-like smell. Due to Thuya wood's limited supply, products will never be made in large quantities. The artisans skilled enough to craft Thuya wood are equally as limited. Each piece is handcrafted and hand-rubbed. Lemon juice and vegetable oil are worked into the wood to bring out an elegant luster, revealing Thuya's natural burled grain. Its beauty will compliment any décor. There may be flaws in workmanship and scuffs or markings from the hand-rubbed process that is used to make these. Sold as is. S/H on this item in the US with USPS is $8.00.
