Description: The Fish can SingHalldor LaxnessTranslated by Magnus MagnussonThomas Y. Crowell Company | New York | 1967pp. 286 | First U.S. Edition Condition: Good+ Hardcover with blue cloth boards and titles in black/silver gilt to spine. Boards show pale stains to front corners with minor smudges elsewhere, though majority surfaces remain quite clean and bright. Cloth wrinkled to spine with minor bumps to caps and rubbing to corners, but cloth is free of frays or tears. Front flyleaf shows an owner's signature with faint, erased remnants of writing in pencil under light. Save for the occasional smudge, interior is otherwise impressive with pages crisp, minimally toned, and free of any further writing, stains, dog-ears, or tears. Binding is tight throughout, and hinges remain firm. Reinforced tears to jacket at spine ends with mild deterioration elsewhere. Covers scuffed with slight discoloration to front, but remain otherwise unsoiled. Jacket is unclipped and housed in a protective archival sleeve. A nice copy of the beloved Icelandic classic's first United Stated edition.
