Born in Gifu Prefecture, Kato studied traditional Japanese ceramics and became known for his mastery of shino, oribe, and kohiki styles, developing unique glazes inspired by classic Mino techniques. His work is marked by earthy tones, natural textures, and a deep appreciation for traditional aesthetics. Designated a Living National Treasure in 1995, Kato’s work was instrumental in revitalizing Mino ware, preserving its heritage while inspiring new approaches in Japanese ceramics. ■ Condition Vintage Preowned ■ Appearance Appearance is beautiful. As an antique, the box has fading, minor scratches, and stains due to age.
