Description: This is the fabric liner insert made to set into the back of an altar tabernacle where the Eucharist was traditionally reserved in Roman Catholic churches. It came from a convent of cloistered Canadian nuns, long since closed in my area, and was probably made by members of the order when their prayer chapel was established. This is composed of padded white silk or satin mounted on heavy board and measures 16 1/2“ long by 13 ¼ “ wide, about 3/8“ thick, beautifully decorated with Eucharistic themed symbols in multi-color embroidery, with gold metallic fringe and a display of the Host with Sacred Monogram ( IHS) in radiance in the center; note the heavy metallic gold tassels attached on both side. Circa 1930s-50s in age, the piece is in virtually perfect condition, having been inside the tabernacle for many years, but note the interesting details on the reverse, including typewritten names of the nuns in the center, and patrons of the order in French script written on one side. This paper covering on the back is thin enough to show further names of patrons placed underneath it, for whom the Sisters were to pray when before the Blessed Sacrament.Shipping and Handling costs are included FREE for this purchase, if mailed within Canada or to the USA.
