Description: A very good copy of the 1915 First Edition of Edgar Lee Masters now famous collection of 245 free-verse epitaphs in the form of monologues spoken from beyond the grave by former residents of a small Illinois town. The Macmillan and Company April 1915 first printing and first issue of Spoon River Anthology measuring 7/8" across the top. 8vo. 248 pages with 6 pages of ads. Hardcover lacking a dust jacket. Publishers' bluish-grey boards decorated in black and gilt. A very nice copy with corners lightly bumped and rubbed, softening to spine tips. Some foxing to the endpapers, a previous owner name in ink to the upper front pastedown and a name scratched out on the front flyleaf. Some chipping mostly along the outer edge of the ads where the pages were roughly cut open. Overall, an excellent 1915 first printing of this sought after collection of poetry.
