Description: Original Colonial-era painting (16th-Century - 18th-Century) fragment I acquired from an antique dealer’s private collection in Cusco, Peru in 2013. This is a stunning example of Spanish letterforms used in paintings of that era. I never saw the full painting, but based on the text, I’m assuming it was a portrait of a saint or a noble person. This is what I am able to deduce from the text, please let me know if you have a better understanding of it, as I am not a native Spanish speaker and some of the letters have deteriorated. “Al hacer antes oido estas verdades, confieso, que me hubiera desnudado de mis torcidos afectos pero ia que a mis oidas lleoaron señer (????) emprender desde (???) nueva vida en libre nuevo.” “Having heard these truths before, I confess that I would have stripped myself of my twisted affections but that which reached my ears, sir, I would undertake a new life in a new freedom.” This is being sold as is. I had this lying flat in a display case for years. But as you can see it’s fragile. Would look incredible framed! Measures approx. 39” wide x 9” tallWill ship rolled and double-boxed
