Rubus glaucus is a perennial shrub in the Rosaceae family. Its native range is from central Mexico to western Bolivia. Familiar names include mora de Castilla and Andean Raspberry. It has a similar taste to a loganberry. They can live for 12-20 years. This semi-erect climbing shrub is in the Rose family. It can grow to around 9 feet tall and wide. It has round, spiny stems that reach out to 9 feet. The leaves have serrated edges and are dark green with white on the underside. The fruits are a drupe coming out green, turning red, and finally, dark purple when edible. They taste much better than your cultivated blackberries in the store. The berries have vitamin C, calcium, and phosphorus, making them suitable for juices, jams, jellies, ice cream, pastries, and more. It prefers temperatures around 50-60F with high humidity. It prefers to grow in the full sun with average water needs. Zones 9-11 Germination Sow seeds on top of the soil and lightly tamp seeds down and cover. Keep moist in a bright spot.
