WELL LOVED WW1 FRENCH COMBATANT'S CROSS 1914-1918 with ORIGINAL RIBBON WORN BY A WW1 FRENCH COMBATANT FROM THE WW1, THE FRANCO PRUSSIAN WAR OR IN COLONIAL WARS PRIOR TO WW1. The Combatant's Cross (French: "Croix du combattant") isa French decoration that recognizes, as its name implies, thosewho fought in combat for France. The Poilus (French combatsoldiers) of WWI worked toward recognition by thegovernment, of a special status to those who had participatedin the bitter fighting of 1914–1918 (as opposed to those whoserved behind the lines). The law of 19 December 1926created la "carte du combatant", or combatant's card, forveterans of 1914-1918, as well as for the veterans of 1870-1871and colonial wars before WW1. The decorationwas created only three years later by the law of 28 June 1930. ------------------ A 36 mm wide bronze cross pattée with a laurel wreath between the arms 36 mm across.
