Description: Welcome to this no-reserve auction... Welcome... Here we have what is largely a MYSTERY ITEM to me... My best guess is that it is an Antique POLITICAL CARTOON Photo Card (of some sort)... * I am selling this tiny item for a friend--who also knows little of it--that recently retired, moved far away, and has enlisted my naive assistance in liquidating his massive antiques and collectibles collection. * I found this in an envelope with the words POLITICAL CARTOON written on it. * I was able to find NOTHING even remotely similar online. * No markings of any sort to help identify or date it... Has the look of either a Late 1800s or Very Early 1900s item... * So, I state the easily observable obvious below... * I think this is a 3-layered item... Very front is a very thin cardboard with a textured coating... * Then we have the oval image; looks to be a photo of the head and hat superimposed upon a cartoon body. Appears that this image is a separate oval piece laid upon the front cardboard piece that is held in place by a thin paper affixed to the front cardboard. * Lastly, there is some sort of coating--film or celluloid--on the front of the image. * BUSINESS CARD SIZE... This is the exact item the winning bidder will receive. USED... Front cardboard piece is very clean but exhibits a vertical crease at midpoint. Oval image is very sharp and clear but there are a couple of stain spots on the film coating. Backing paper piece is well-attached but is loose on one corner and has a couple of surface tears in it. Please inspect pics carefully BEFORE bidding and do not bid if you expect to receive items that are somehow "better" than the ones pictured and described here. NO RETURNS...
