Description: Polished Gold & Silver Plate 9 Branch Hanukkah Hanukkiyah Menorah & Candles For consideration is this vintage polished gold plate and polished silver plate 9 branch menorah. This menorah measures 8½ inches tall at the center light, 6½ inches wide at the top from sconce to sconce and the base measures 2¾ inches in diameter. The underside of the base has a gold and black sticker that reads “Karshi Gold & Silver Plated Jerusalem”. The candles are blue, yellow and red tapers to fit the small sconces on the menorah. They are new and unused in their original slightly bent package and made in Israel. The menorah is in excellent vintage condition with no problems noted. Buyer will pay shipping on a 3 pound box. Thank you for looking! NOTE: The defining characteristic of a Hanukkah menorah is eight lights in a row, with a ninth lamp off to the side or above, separated from the other eight. The ninth lamp is called a shamash, a “servator,” and it symbolically differentiates the eight holy flames from other, mundane light sources. As the story goes, one day's worth of oil miraculously lasted for eight days. That's why the Hanukkah menorah has nine candles: one for each of the eight days, and one to light the rest. The Hanukkah menorah is more accurately called a hanukkiyah. NOTE: The word “menorah” is Hebrew for “lamp,” and generally refers to either the seven-branched golden candelabra that was lit every day in the Tabernacle, and then the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, or the eight-flamed lamp that is lit on the eight nights of the Jewish holiday of Chanukah.
