THIS LISTING is for Vol. 2 covering K-Z, It Has and 11,060 illustrations Also included is a price and grading guide for comics, a two-page index of the artists who are detailed as contributing art to either the covers or the insides of the comic titles collected, a comic character index and the rest of the text pages are explications of the passing popularity of comic genres, their social impact and the vagaries of collecting them. Ernst Gerber's quest to put this together was five years in the making, with the culmination of a life time of collecting and selling comics leading to this endeavour. The photographs within are from various collections spread throughout the U.S. and Canada. During this five year long project, Gerber spent countless hours traveling to people's homes to photograph these four-color treasures. Many gracious collectors lent their valuable time in helping Gerber photograph their collections; some even trusted him enough to send their precious books to Gerber personally. Many such great photos are from the famed Edgar Church (Mile High) collection. The list of contributors is lengthy, what began in 1984 ended up costing Gerber $75,000 in film and camera equipment. Gerber also spent several days going through the Library of Congress archives, where he discovered only a small portion of comic books from 1933 to 1958 had been documented. Many comics that were listed from the 1940-50 era were also discovered to be non existent. Gerber also experienced many setbacks during his documentation of one of America's greatest mediums; a few trips he made resulted in overexposed film, requiring a few flights back to the source to be re-photographed.Ernst Gerber was a man with a dream, like all of us, his interest in comics began as a child, and he eventually grew out of them but came back to them as an adult. Ernie died in 1998. In 1991 Ernie followed these Golden Age volumes with The Photo-Journal Guide Volumes 3 (A-J) & 4 (K-Z) dedicated wholly to Marvel Comics. These were slimmer books but retained the over sized dimensions of the earlier books Original Cover price $75.00.Condition: Shrink wrapped - Mint-The book and dust jacket are still in their original shrink wrap, this has split along its top edge and there are very feint dust residue marks on the top of the pages.One careful non smoking owner with no pets. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they are better than my other listings - although I guess I would argue that they are!! You judge. I will always combine postage costs for multiple purchases.
