Limoges Coronet Plate 9 3/4" Hand Painted Max Golden Pheasant w/Gold 1906-1920

Description: Limoges Coronet Plate 9 3/4" Hand Painted Max Golden Pheasant w/Gold 1906-1920 An Elegant Decorative 9 3/4" CABINET PLATE from Limoges, France, GOLDEN PHEASANT Cock BIRD w/Gold Trim, Embossed, Scalloped Rim, Hand Painted by Artist Max in the studio at Coronet circa 1906-1920 DESCRIPTION:  The beautiful hand painted plate was decorated by the talented artist, Max who is known as a painter of gamebirds who painted for such sought-after decorating studios as Flambeau, Pouyat, L.S.& S., Latrille Freres, Coronet and Jean Boyer.  The color palette used is  yellow, reddish brown, blue, green and purple w/gold.  The golden pheasant is so regal with his delightful colors.  The brown tree with its stippled brown leaves adds flair to the painting.  The blue wash is painted such that the white of the porcelain seems to add clouds to the sky.  This is such a realistic painting of a golden pheasant and was obviously meant to be displayed as a cabinet plate or as a wall hanging.  It still has the hanging cord through the drilled hole in the back foot. CONDITION:  While this plate is classified as used, its condition is superb.  We can find no defects and very little damage.  Look closely at the photos to see some minor scratches on the paint.  These do not distract from the beauty of the painting.  There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, crazing or hairlines.  It is clean & white on the back.  The gold on the rim shows age appropriate wear or perhaps it was applied in that manner. DIMENSIONS:  This plate has a diameter of 9 3/4" with a height of 1 1/4". HISTORY/MARKS: George Borgfeldt operated a New York importing company specializing in high end decorated porcelain from Limoges, France and Bavaria, Germany.  Borgfeldt established art studios in both France and Germany.  The French Studio trademarked Coronet was located in Paris, but the white ware was manufactured in Limoges by various porcelain factories.  Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, refers to the blue decorator mark on this plate as mark #1 and dates it to 1906-1920.  This limits production to the 1906-1920 time period.
