Description: After more than 60 years of collecting coins it is time to move my collections along to new homes. Here is a nice bronze follis issued under Licinius who ruled the empire from 308-324 AD. He ruled during an interesting time of internal conflict and civil was and his life and reign is worth a read! The obverse has a laurel wreathed bust of Licinius right with good detail surrounded by the legend IMP LIC LICINIVS PF AVG. On the reverse is a great classic design of Jupiter standing left with a chlamy hanging over his left shoulder while leaning on a scepter. He is holding victory with an eagle at his feet. The 4th officia that issued the coin is symbolized by the DELTA in the right field. The coin was minted in Siscia which was in present day Sisak, Croatia and the mint mark SIS is in the exergue below. This is a good sized coin and measures 23mm in diameter. In order to show the detail in the coin I took pictures with various shades of light which sometimes helps to bring out the detail for a camera. It presents well and in normal sunlight has a grayish patina overall. This design is referenced in RIC VI 232a.
