Description: The Appeal—The Promise—The Fulfillment is a trilogy of poems published by The Hibernia Bank and Trust Company of New Orleans in 1918 under the title "In Flanders Fields." The three poems follow a logical sequence. The first poem, The Appeal, was written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, a Canadian poet, physician, artist, soldier, and surgeon who fought in the Second Battle of Ypres in Belgium during the First World War. The poem depicts a vivid image of poppies that bloom at the graves of fallen soldiers in Flanders, Belgium and emphasizes the duty of the living to carry on the fight and honor the sacrifice of those who gave their lives.The second poem, The Promise, was written by Charles Burleigh (C.B.) Golbreath, an American writer and poet, as a response to John McCrae's "In Flanders Fields."
