Monumental complete five volume set with extensive detailed index to the entire work, loads of illustrated plates, many of specific people. Period cloth bindings, embossed bands, gilt title lettering, marbled edges. Bindings remain clean, tight, and sound, front cover of first vol. with some old paper wrapper still adhered to the cloth (could be removed with damp cloth and patience- see pic). Interior with some light old damp staining at base of text block in couple volumes (nothing severe), contents display a pleasing age patina, largely free of age spotting. Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
