Description: This hand painted teacup and saucer is decorated with violets against a background of light blue and peach tones. The cup has a gold rim and a stripe on the handle, no gold on the saucer. The artist's name, Beebe, is painted charmingly on the back of the cup in gold. (I like that, because I've paid extra for what I thought was hand painting, but it was mass produced.) China painting was a talent practiced by many young ladies of good families. The cup was made in occupied Japan, and possibly sold plain to be decorated later, so it dates to the period after World War II.
