Description: original , authentic , metal NOS dealer license plate for " The Chevy Place " of Jacksonville Florida , car dealer , not dated , but aprox mid 1970s era. vintage , N.O.S. , unused , light surface wear from storage , still Excellent+ condition. Key words: Chevy , Chevrolet , GMC , corvette , Nova , Chevelle , Camaro , vette convertible , ect.. I found this article on the internet from I believe a Jacksonville Florida newspaper article in Oct 2016. from information in this article , my guess is that this tag is from about early 1970s to 1975/1976 , as the last Thompson owner , Gordon Thompson Jr , passed away in 1975 in an accidently shooting. leads me to believe there would have been a name change to the new owner in the mid/late 1970s.---------------------------------------------- The Jerry Hamm Chevrolet dealership on Philips Highway in Jacksonville has been sold to Orlando-based car dealer Andrew Ferguson, a former owner of the Orange Park Cadillac dealership. With the change of ownership, the dealership has been renamed Riverside Chevrolet, according to former dealer principal David Hamm.Terms of the sale were not disclosed, but it included the Hamm dealership’s 10-acre site and 50,000 square-foot building, which the business moved into in 2008, Hamm said. It’s about a mile south of the original dealership location.Damon Ferguson, the son of Andrew Ferguson, will be the dealer principal of Riverside Chevrolet, which is at 3494 Philips Highway. Damon Ferguson’s brother Dwayne is operations manager at the store. Contacted by phone Tuesday morning, Andrew Ferguson said he’s “not new to Jacksonville.” He bought the Nimnicht Cadillac dealership in 2009 and sold it to the Fields Auto Group in 2013.Andrew Ferguson is a longtime member of the General Motors Minority Dealer Advisory Council. He also owns a Cadillac dealership in New Orleans. Jerry Hamm Chevrolet was established in 1953 as Gordon Thompson Chevrolet, at 2600 Philips Highway. It was originally owned by Gordon Thompson Sr., who died in 1964. After his death, his son Gordon Thompson Jr. took over the dealership, and then when he died in an accidental shooting in 1975, Jerry Hamm took over the store, where he had worked since 1954.David Hamm joined the dealership in 1978, and became the dealer in 2008, he said. His brother Mike Hamm came on board in 1992 after a career in the ministry. Jerry Hamm, who is now 80, has not been active in the business for about four years, David Hamm said. “We just decided, like several other local dealers, that the time was right to sell,” David Hamm said Tuesday morning. “Dealership prices are the highest they’ve been in years, so we chose to sell.”As for his plans, David Hamm, who is 56, said he is “not going to do anything the rest of this year.”-----------------------------------------------------------------
