Macmillan originally intended to publish/release the book in May, 1936, and the TRUE First/First of this title will state May, 1936. However, as the publication date grew near, the novel attracted the attention of The Book Of The Month Club which was interested in making this book available to its' subscribers in June. Macmillan decided to push the publication date back to June, but elected not to throw out the May printings they'd already constructed. So, this book was actually released in June, 1936, but the May Printing is earliest printing and is, without question, the TRUE First/First. Some would classify this copy as a First Edition Thus, a First Edition/Later Printing, a First Edition/Early Printing and so on.In an effort to avoid any confusion, we are simply selling this wonderful copy as an Early Printing.Regardless of ones' personal preference regarding the language/classification, the most important thing to remember is that this copy is NOT a First Edition/First Printing. Some general/shelf/age wear along with...Numerous, large strips of clear tape. The tape covers the entire spine and portions of both the front and rear board. We assume the tape was applied to strengthen the book/keep the spine and boards attached?Wear to the binding. The wear includes rips and separation. The binding feels very loose/shaky and should be handled with care.Creases/rips/scuffing/marks/wear to the spine, the front board and the rear board. The wear is particularly noticeable on the spine and near/along the edges. The wear is SUBSTANTIAL!Marks/wear to the edge/fore pages.Creases/marks/rips/scuffing/discoloration/warping/wear to the pages, varying in size and severity and particularly noticeable on certain pages. The wear is considerable! Numerous, large creases, random marks, extensive discoloration, sporadic rips and very noticeable warping. The wear is SUBSTANTIAL! All of the wear previously mentioned is VERY clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered.
