Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) Dr. Peter Venkman is one of the original Ghostbusters. He has doctorates in both psychology and parapsychology. Peter is portrayed as the "lazy" Ghostbuster. He doesn't usually take his work seriously, has a dry sense of humour, and flirts with women, including clients Dr. Raymond "Ray" Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz was one of the original Ghostbusters and was one of the most devoted to the pursuit of studying the paranormal. Ray is regarded by Peter as the "heart of the Ghostbusters. He is generally the most positive of the group in outlook, however bits of cynicism will surface on occasion. Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) Dr. Egon Spengler, Ph.D. is a former professor of paranormal studies at the Columbia University. Upon his termination, Egon founded Ghostbusters, Inc. along with Doctors Ray Stantz and Peter Venkman. He is considered the brain behind the Ghostbusters and has designed and built nearly all of their equipment, including the Proton Pack and the Storage facility. Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) Winston Zeddemore was the fourth member to join the Ghostbusters. He saw a job advertisement in the wanted ads, and replied. Unlike the other three Ghostbusters, Winston Zeddemore was not originally a university professor. Winston applied for a job opening late in 1984 after business started to pick up. Janine Melnitz interviewed Winston from her desk. She asked him if he believed in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trans-mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis. Winston replied if there was a steady paycheck in it, he would believe anything she said. Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) Dana Barrett was a professional musician living in New York. She played cello in "a major symphony orchestra," presumably the New York Philharmonic. Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) Louis Tully is an accountant who lived down the hall from Dana Barrett, in an apartment building on Central Park West. Five years later, he became the Ghostbusters' accountant. Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) Janine was the first person hired to work at the Firehouse. She staffed the phones and kept track of appointments, calls, messages, etc. She showed a romantic interest in Egon Spengler, but he didn't return her advances. While initially extremely bored with her job and seemingly indifferent to the business, the moment she received an urgent plea for assistance from the haunted Sedgewick Hotel, she roared out a joyful "We got one!" and enthusiastically activated the muster signal for the primary staff.
