Description: James Thomas Flexner’s 4 volume complete biography of George Washington, for which Flexner won a special Pulitzer Prize notation award. The last volume, Anguish and Farewell, was a National Book Award winner. This volume is also a stated first edition in this set – the others don’t designate. The books were published by Little, Brown and Company, Boston and Toronto, with copyright dates spanning 1965 to 1972. All of the books contain illustrations. Hard covers with dust jackets. The set includes: George Washington the Forge of Experience (1732-1775) George Washington in the American Revolution (1755-1783) George Washington and the New Nation (1783-1793) George Washington Anguish and Farewell (1793-1799) Condition: The dust jackets have some light chipping, edgewear, and staining. The actual book covers have areas of mild staining. Some tanning to the inside of the jackets. The binding in the books is strong – question if these copies were ever read. No names, bookplates or inscriptions. There are small stains to the external text blocks. There may be an occasional mark of stain found, but overall, these are quite clean, nice copies.
