Many years ago, the Daleks sent out thousands of egg-shaped Progenitors containing the genetic coding of the race, so that new Daleks could be created whenever necessary. One of these Progenitors was found in war-torn England during the Second World War and transported to a Dalek ship. However, because the Daleks that found it had been genetically modified by their creator Davros, using his own DNA, the Progenitor did not acknowledge them as pure Daleks, until the Doctor identified them as such and the Progenitor created a new race of powerful Daleks as a result. These Daleks were led by the white-cased Supreme, and include the enigmatically titled yellow-cased Eternal, blue-cased Strategists, orange-cased Scientists and the red-cased Drones. The Supreme Dalek was a white-coloured Dalek specialised for leadership in the New Dalek Paradigm. As with their fellows bar the Eternal Dalek, the sense globes on their base unit were coloured dark silver. The first one was created by the Progenitor in 1941. (TV: Victory of the Daleks) The original Supreme white Dalek of the New Paradigm, along with the other original four Paradigm Daleks (the yellow Eternal, blue Strategist, orange Scientist, and red Drone), were created when the three survivors of an encounter with the Doctor tricked the Eleventh Doctor into allowing them to activate the Progenitor device. The Supreme condemned the survivors as "inferior" and ordered their destruction to "cleanse the unclean." Under the leadership of a Dalek Emperor, "permanent" Supreme Daleks made up the Dalek Supreme Council, (AUDIO: We Are The Daleks) although this title or the equivalent "Supreme Controller" could also refer to the leader of a specific operation or territory. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth) The Dalek Supreme who led the invasion of the Cathedral of Contemplation during the Second Dalek War was addressed as Supreme Commander. (AUDIO: Out of Time) Members of the Supreme Council such as the Black Dalek were identified as Supreme Councillors. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe) In the absence of an Emperor, a singular Dalek Supreme could serve as the leader of the entire Dalek Empire; (AUDIO: The Davros Mission, The Demons) "the" Dalek Supreme could also be the designation of a singular Dalek serving as second-in-command to the Emperor, (AUDIO: Invasion of the Daleks, et al.) or an equivalent leader such as the Prime Minister of the Daleks. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe) Indeed, debate had emerged at the time of the publication of The Dalek Survival Guide as to whether every member of the Dalek Council held the title of Supreme, or an equivalent title like "Supreme Controller", or if only a singular Dalek held the position as the Emperor's second-in-command. (PROSE: Dalek Survival Guide) Some accounts did depict multiple Daleks as being able to hold the "Supreme" title at one time. (AUDIO: We Are The Daleks, PROSE: Dalek, et. al) Unconditional obedience to "the" Supreme Dalek and belief that it would lead the Daleks to victory was one of the six "articles of faith" comprising the Dalek creed (PROSE: The Dalekreed) Supreme Daleks were subordinate to the Dalek Time Controller (PROSE: The Dalek Generation, AUDIO: Vengeance) and its successor, the Dalek Time Strategist, who served as second-in-command to the Emperor in the Last Great Time War. (AUDIO: Restoration of the Daleks, Temmosus) When one Dalek Supreme was destroyed during the Last Great Time War, the Dalek Emperor left the selection of its replacement to the Time Strategist. (AUDIO: Desperate Measures) While the Celestial Intervention Agency believed Supreme Daleks were more intelligent than typical Dalek drones, (PROSE: The Dalek Problem) any Dalek mutant could be designated a Supreme after its creation, but it was randomly selected and uncommon. During the Time War, it was a billion to one chance, with most mutants instead being designated Dalek drones and therefore being tasked with simply following a superior's orders, instead of giving them. (PROSE: Dalek) The first Supreme Dalek of the New Dalek Paradigm, however, was described by human historians as possessing a "larger-than-normal brain". (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe) Within the Golden City Zone of the Dalek Dome based on Dalek history derived from the memories of captured Kaled mutants, the simulacra Daleks did not recognise the title of "Dalek Supreme", only the Golden Emperor. Nevertheless, the Emperor was served by a Black Dalek (COMIC: Liberation of the Daleks [+]) equivalent to the original Emperor's Black Dalek Leader, (COMIC: Duel of the Daleks [+]) who would assume the position of Dalek Supreme. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe [+]) The Fourteenth Doctor identified Supremes and Emperors amongst the alternative Dalek leaders who formed the Dalek Alliance, alongside a Dalek Autarch and a Dalek Imperator. (COMIC: Liberation of the Daleks [+]) Victory of the Daleks" is the third episode in the fifth series of British science fiction television series Doctor Who. Written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Andrew Gunn, it was first broadcast on BBC One on 17 April 2010. In the episode, the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) arrive in London during the Blitz, where Winston Churchill (Ian McNeice) has employed "Ironsides", a scientific creation from Professor Bracewell (Bill Paterson) to be used as weapons in the war effort. However, the Doctor recognises the Ironsides as his archenemies the Daleks, who plan to destroy Earth by activating a device located inside Bracewell, an android. Wishing to incorporate the popular Daleks into the series, showrunner Steven Moffat instructed Gatiss to write an episode about Churchill and the Daleks. The episode introduces a new "Paradigm" of Daleks, which were designed by Gatiss to be bigger and more colourful than the previous variant. "Victory of the Daleks" was seen by 8.2 million viewers on BBC One and BBC HD, placing second for the night it aired. Critical reception was mixed; both McNeice and Paterson's performances were praised, but some felt that the episode was too rushed and would have worked better if it was spread over two episodes. The Eleventh Doctor and Amy land in the Cabinet War Rooms during the Second World War. As the Doctor arrived late, Winston Churchill turned to the scientific advances of Professor Edwin Bracewell, including robotic devices called "Ironsides", which are recognised immediately by the Doctor as his arch-enemies, the Daleks, but act as Bracewell's inventions. The Doctor attacks the devices, shouting "I am the Doctor and you are the Daleks!" Unbeknown to the Doctor and the humans, a Dalek ship is in orbit near the Moon; upon hearing the Doctor's testimony, which has just been transmitted by the Ironsides, the Dalek aboard uses it to activate a Progenitor device and alerts its comrades on Earth. The Daleks reveal their intent and expose Bracewell as an android before returning to their ship. The Doctor follows in the TARDIS, leaving Amy behind for her protection. The Doctor threatens to destroy the ship, including himself, before the Progenitor completes, as part of the Daleks' plot to restore their race, but the Daleks fire an energy beam at London that lights up the entire city minutes before an air raid by the Luftwaffe, leaving the Doctor's allies vulnerable and creating a stalemate. When the Progenitor completes, five brand new Daleks in larger, redesigned casings emerge from the Progenitor Chamber. They disintegrate the older "impure" models, who die willingly. At the same time, Amy convinces Churchill and Bracewell to use the technological know-how they have obtained from the Daleks to modify three Spitfires so that they can fly in space. The pilots attack and destroy the dish on the underside of the Dalek ship that was firing the energy beam. Before the last Spitfire pilot can destroy the ship, the Daleks trigger the power source inside Bracewell that contains an unstable wormhole that will consume Earth if released. The Doctor, torn over defeating the Daleks or saving Earth, orders the Spitfire to stop its attack and returns to Earth. With the Doctor's help, Amy is able to convince Bracewell that he is more human than machine, deactivating the device. The Daleks, having played on the Doctor's compassion for Earth, announce their victory and their ship jumps in time. The Doctor and Amy remove all the advanced Dalek technology, apart from Bracewell, despite Churchill wanting to use it for the war.
