Description: This gorgeous lacquered wooden sika deer is a reproduction of an artifact excavated in 1978 in Suixian 隨縣, Hubei, from the tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng 曾乙侯. The original was buried around 433 BC from the Warring States Period and is currently held by the Provincial Museum of Hubei, China. Condition Notes Part of one antler broke off and was repaired with wood glue. Pics 13-15 show that repair. The lacquered paint is flaking off in other places on the antlers and a little on deer body, all visible in pics. One larger scrape on rear leg in pic 10. Finally, head and body are joined by pegs so the head can rotate some, which you can see in the differences between pics 2 & 3 and pics 8 & 9, and somewhat in pic 10. This item is a genuine antique, so it may show other signs of its age. I do my best to document any flaws I observe. Please examine all pics before you purchase.
