Notice the precise top stitching on red trim!Came from an estate of an elderly Doll maker and doll collector, I bought some wonderful antique clothing items and this unusual cape was among them. Somewhat resembling a Nurse's cape, from either Civil war or WWI era. I also think it would work on a BOY doll as it definitely has the MILITARY style appearance. I have EVEN seen a similar cape on a site for Priest garments so this item is a real mystery to me.I did a lot of research and discovered that capes in WWI were gray wool with red trimming similar to this trim. This could have been someone's interpretation of a nurse cape for a doll outfit. I don't see this as being for a NUN outfit. I uploaded an image of a WWI nurse uniform for reference. Very similar but gray not white.This cape is shown on two of my dolls. The first shows it on a 25" bisque head Queen Louise with composition body, a better fit than the second image on a slimmer kid bodied doll that is also 25" tall by CM Bergman. Measure your doll's neck, it fits a slightly less than 12" neck circumference, and closes with two snaps. SEE ALL PHOTOS to see length of cape in front and from back as well. I think it would be TOO BIG for an American Girl type doll. However It was too small for my 34" 1079 Simon H, would not go around her neck. SO my opinion is this would fit a doll probably 25-30" BUT AGAIN, measure your doll's neck. Dolls in photo for DISPLAY purpose only, Both have been sold.If you want to dress your antique or vintage doll in a Nurse uniform, I think this item has the 'look' even if a mystery design.It is clean and I don't see stains, I would not risk washing even in cold water should the red trim bleed onto the white.
