Physically, this Area-51M is in good overall condition considering its age with minor to moderate signs of wear and use to the exterior of the laptop. The display lid and bottom cover of the laptop have surface scratches and scuffs from use. The rearward portion of the bottom case has some splits in the plastic near the vents and I/O ports. The interior of the laptop like the palmrest, keyboard and display are in excellent condition with no significant signs of wear. Functionally, this Alienware is in working condition with occasional graphical artifacts appearing when the system has been on for an extended period of time. It is not known if the issue is hardware or software related and may require repair, replacement and/or maintenance. Purchase with this in mind. The CPU has been refreshed with high quality ARCTIC MX-4 thermal paste for improved thermal performance. The original Alienware battery has been confirmed to charge and hold a short charge but battery life, health and usage time is not guaranteed due to age and prior use. The optical drive has been confirmed to function but appears to read discs slowly. The internal storage has been upgraded to a 128GB SSD for greatly improved speed and responsiveness. A fresh installation of Windows XP Professional Edition with Service Pack 3 has been pre-installed along with system drivers and Windows updates. The drive partitions have been properly aligned to ensure the longest possible storage life. Some Alienware-specific drivers or software may be missing due to the unavailability of downloads for this laptop. This original Alienware relic predates Dell's acquisition of the company and is exceedingly hard to find and even harder in good, functional condition.
