Description: Two wonderful large (11x14) antique original Albumen prints depicting a New York City Fire Scene. These are original images, not reprints. Handwriting on the back indicates: July 12, 1908Park PlaceNew York City I did find a record of a fire occurring on Park Place on July 12, 1908. It comes from a 13 July, 1908 article in The Sun Newspaper. A digital copy of that article is available in the last listing photo for your reference. That article indicates that a fire occurred at 44 Park Place, occupied by Frank Netchet Company - Manufacturers of artificial flowers. "After the flames had been worked over for half an hour they got away from the firemen altogether and it was necessary to call the water tower... The engine supplying the tower ran short of coal and had to borrow some from another engine. It took almost two hours to subdue what at first seemed to be only a small blaze" In addition - the sign that is partially visible on the right of the albumen on the right appears to be "Frank & De Keyser" - they dealt principally in house furnishing and specialties. They had a temporary address at 32 Park Place, "opposite the old store" This is wonderful early image of multiple crews battling with a horse drawn water tower; and there are two of them. These were obtained from a small collection of rare and hard to find firefighting photographs and ephemera that belonged to a lifelong collector. Any questions just ask. Will ship with extra care.
