Description: First edition/ first printing of Desmond Bagley's landmark first book, The Golden Keel. VG/VG in unclipped jacket (Doubleday, 1964). Stated first edition on copyright page without number line as required. Not an ex-library nor a remainder. Bright, clean black cloth boards with gold gilt to spine. Corners sharp although slightly rubbed at bottom of boards. Text block tight, binding square but shows weakening at top. Jacket is uncommonly nice. Illustration still pops. The notoriously fragile jacket shows no fading. Some chipping at front flyleaf fold, rubbing at top spine ends and a slight closed tear near top of spine on rear. The original $4.95 price is intact. Now protected in mylar (see photos). Very nice copy of Bagley's epic thriller based on a the true story of Mussolini's lost treasure and group of men who set out to find it and smuggle it out of Italy.In a race against former partisans, a devious countess and a self-styled British pirate, then men come up with an ingenuous scheme -- if they can live long enough to pull it off.
