Description: 1973 taxe fraction era postage dues on incoming German mail: 9 Aug 1973 postmarked airmail cover sent from BRAUNSCHWEIG to TEL AVIV & franked 1.20 DM and tied by 2x strikes of the local postmark; the postage paid was subsequently determined to be short paid & the calculation applied by the German post office was of the period taxe fraction, written as twice the deficiency in the numerator and the base surface letter postage rate in the denominator, here 20/70 for a deficiency of 10 pfennig. In Israel this fraction was multiplied against the equivalent base letter surface postage rate of 0.55L, yielding a calcuated postage dues amount of 0.15L, as marked on the front & likely paid in cash.
