They are dated April 23, 1958 and May 26, 1958 and are for railroad interline charges. The MEC served central and southern Maine, with lines into Vermont, New Hampshire, Quebec and New Brunswick. It operated from 1862-1981 and is now a part of Pan Am Systems railroad. The Pittsburgh & West Virginia Railway served the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Wheeling, West Virginia areas. It operated between 1904-1964 and carried primarily coal and materials to/from area steel mills. The checks measure appx 8 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches and are printed on medium-weight paperstock. Both are in very good condition. There are no rips or tears, and no writing or markings other than those from its issuance and processing. There are some ink smears from its processing (see scans).
