Description: Note: Please study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person. This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1946 Press Photo Aerial view of Fort Peck Lake and spillway in Montana This is an original press photo. Army engineers wanted an "insurance" spillway for control of the Missouri River at northeastern Montana's Fort Peck Dam, largest earth-fill in the nation, so they built a spillway which they say could accommodate flood waters in greater volume than anything in the river's record - a volume equal to the Mississippi's normal flow. This Army aerial photo, taken from a plane flying over Fort Peck Lake, shows operational tests of the mile-long concrete lined spillway. In foreground is structure which supports 15 floodgates - structure 800 feet wide and 86 feet high Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches. Photo is dated 09-18-1946.
