1864 Louisiana Currency - Wilderness Battlefield - Civil War Bullets- 3906

Description: An original hand signed 1864 note issued by “The State of Louisiana” from Shreveport, Louisiana. The “One Dollar” currency has the hand inscribed serial number “7753” at right side. The note was printed by “South-west Print”. The note has vignettes of a steamship at center and Minerva at left. Original lead ammunition found on the Wilderness Battlefield near Fredericksburg, Virginia. The two ring Confederate .58 Gardner at left was made at the Richmond Arsenal in Virginia. The bullet at center is a .58 Federal issue made in the Northern arsenals. It hasn’t been fired; whether from the paper cartridge breaking or that it was possibly wet and discarded. The .58 caliber at right has been fired and is probably Federal. They all used a paper cartridge which has not survived in the ground. The white color or patina is due to oxidation in the ground. The Wilderness, near Fredericksburg, Virginia, was the first battle in 1864 between General Grant’s “Army of the Potomac” and General Lee’s “Army of Northern Virginia”. It was the beginning of what would be called Grant’s “Overland Campaign” to take the Confederate capitol at Richmond. They are mounted in an 8” x 12” Riker style case with glass front. The artifacts are just pressed in, we don’t glue them in. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. The documents pictured will also come with the set. Please see our "About” on front page for more information on the framing and artifacts.
