1830s handwritten original poems by Lucy Ashley, Virginia, with later recipes

Description: Charming 1830s copybook filled with mostly (I believe) original poetry written by Miss Lucy Ashley (probably from Virginia). The latter section contains recipes for various foods, mainly desserts, and is in a different, probably later, handwriting. Miss Lucy’s first poem is dated 1833. Her writing is small, but legible, although some poems are written in pencil and are difficult to decipher. Titles include “The Rejected Lovers” and “Lines on the Death of My Much-Loved Infant.” As stated above, I think that most of these are her own work, since I’m unable to find the verses with a Google search, but some, such as “The Autumn Evening,” are well-known. She also devoted two pages to the symbolism of flowers. Overall this is a delightful piece of early American ephemera. Condition: fragile, fragile! The pages have separated from the cover, which is itself in poor shape, and are in two sections as shown in the photos. These two sections are more or less intact but some of the pages are probably loose. I didn’t want to cause further damage so I’ve avoided handling it as much as possible.
