The bindings measure 8 inches tall by 5 1/4 inches wide. Hardcovers bound in original full marbled calf. The bindings are rubbed and bumped but are sound with secure hinges. The front hinge of Volume 7 is just starting at the top. Some old scuffing on the bindings, especially on the rear covers. The spines show some dryness and rubbing. Dual burgundy and black labels on the spines with gilt star motifs above and below the labels. Gilt rules along the edges of the covers. The edges of the text block are a bit dulled but were likely yellow originally. Green marbled endpapers. A sound set with clean text and wide margins. Volumes 2 and 7 only of a 7 volume set. Volume 2 has a large folding map of Europe, Asia Minor, and the Mediterranean. The map measures about 18 1/2 inches wide by 13 inches tall; the actual map image measures about 17 3/8 inches wide by 9 1/4 inches. There is a tear of about 3 inches at the gutter of the map running into the image. The title of the map is, "Carte ou l'on voit la position des Principaux Royaumes et Etats, qui environnoient la Mediterranee Lorsques les Romains commencerent laurs Guerres au de la de L'Italie." Text of the work is in French.
