I've had this set in my private collection for many years. This stunning valance is an antique, English bedding set piece, one of a set ( to see the many other pieces in this collection, please search my store for the word " Bromley " and they will appear ~*~ This piece has remarkable trim , all handmade ~ It was printed by Bromley Hall in 1775 and the pattern is called The Cock. The meandering vine is very typical of the mid to late 18th century , very fashionable and the flowers were inspired by the blooms of India, being " discovered" by British explorers of this period. The strength and boldness of the pattern comes alive in these fabulously preserved textiles, I've never seen another even remotely like it. This panel is printed on a siamoise, linen and cotton blend, wonderfully unevenly spun. GORGEOUS China blue. The 18th century trim is extraordinary as well.
